After leaving the Annapolis area (Weems Creek) we sailed to the Magothy
River and anchored behind Dobbins Island. Very busy anchorage as
all the locals use it as the "the old swimming hole." Parties all
night long, etc.
The following evening we took John and Jeffrey Kodis out sailing for a
couple hours and had decent wind for most of it. We anchored in
the northern end of Sillery Bay and awoke to find ourselves surrounded
by crabbers of all types. Neat how some of them put out a long
string with chicken parts every foot or so and then go from one end to
the other raising the line up over a bar on the boat and they scoop the
crabs as they come near the surface. Catching the crabs this way
is like the monkey trap idea as they don't want to let go of the
chicken.
Our next anchorage was way up Bodkin Creek, where we met up with 6
other boats mostly Columbias for a "Bodkin Blast", birthday party for
one of the guys, and dinner out. Nice group, super evening!
Wish we could make it every year.
We're now in Baltimore. We looked at the Inner Harbor where all
the books say to anchor, however, it is too small, and too crowded with
paddleboats for us. We went out into deeper water off Locust
Point with several other sailboats (some of whom we met while in
Annapolis). We got together with them for dinner, drinks, etc.,
and found them all to be super strong individuals who know how to enjoy
themselves.
We visited the aquarium, Fort McHenry, several markets, Little Italy,
etc., etc., and oh yes, continued our favorite pastime, people
watching! Next anchorage will likely be some place quiet to get
rid of the sensory overload of Baltimore. Our best wishes
to all. Hope the sailing is good in Buffalo!
